The title of this post is pretty self-explanatory, but, here we go!
As some of you know, after I finished my first year of TAPIF, I was a little unsure of what I would do next.
I decided to go ahead and renew with TAPIF but changed my académie from Bordeaux to Paris, at the time thinking JP and I would be moving.
I was accepted, but soon after I got a teaching job offer not too far from Bordeaux which seemed perfect. I didn’t want to wait all the way until October to start working again and rather than an assistant position, this was a full-on teaching position, giving me a lot more power and responsibility.
Long story short, the job didn’t work out.
I don’t want to go into too many details, but the moral of the story is I wasn’t happy there and I wanted to quit.
I was so scared of quitting and not having a steady salary or that security of knowing where I would be working. But, ultimately the job was making me very unhappy and it was really taking a toll on me.
I decided enough was enough, and I quit.
Terrified, I found some babysitting jobs to hold me over until I could find something with a slightly higher income.
I contacted the Rectorat de Bordeaux at the end of September to see if there were any assistant positions available. (Often, TAPIF applicants who have been accepted drop out last minute which leaves the school with no assistant.)
There were no posts when I first contacted the Rectorat, but by mid-October I was offered a job!
The vacances Toussaint have just begun, but I was able to tour the school and meet with my supervising teacher and I am so thrilled to be working with such a lovely and warm person!
I haven’t met any students yet, but that will all happen once the vacation is over.
I’ll be working at the high school level again, but this high school is quite different than the one I was working at last year, which I’m actually really excited about.
I loved the school I worked at last year, but I’m really interested to see the contrasts with this new one and get to know different types of students.
Also, I’m still keeping my babysitting gigs while doing TAPIF so I can earn as much as possible with the time that I have!
So, while I was really nervous to quit my old job, I can tell you it was completely the right decision for me.
I feel so happy now and I’m really excited to be working in these kinds of environments again.
I’ll keep you updated on my TAPIF adventures!
What about the rest of you? Are any of you doing TAPIF right now?
